Majestic Light
The lights are the most common products being designed by most designers, There is a range of different designs and styles out which bases on the consumer's desired state and the production aims and supplies. The creativity is the most important part in any of these two. As its important for a designer to be capable of delivering an extra ordinary design given any material and any limitation.
The Majestic Light is new look in the up cycled light production. It uses the material previously used for billboard posters(Vinyl). Majestic is a table lamp designed light, it helps minimising the amount of the material wastage by intellectual cutting diagram which helps prevent as much wastage as possible.
The Design it self brings a relaxing/romantic atmosphere through the narrow cuts on the material which lets out a smooth and filtered light suitable for the bedroom setting. Having the material fairy smooth an un solid the bendable wires are used to give extra hold to the product this helps achieving the best desired shapes as well as giving a solid look to the light.
Having the lower light part as one unjoined long piece to the bottom stand is to give the consumers a chance of "DIY" while playing around as they may come up with a new design based on their elegance. The top pieces also could be taken off and re-arrenged as there are longer and shorter pieces that are designed in order originally this snap clipped pieces could be moved around again to achieve the desired look.
Having each piece coming of to an isolated part help flat packing which again help prevention of wastage. As the boxed used would be much smaller therefore less cardboard as well as storage is in house and stores are occupied.

Rationale
The "Crossed" brings a brand new style and look to the pre-existing kitchen tool Mezzaluna. The redesigned products grants luxury via its phenomenon new handles. The entire new look of the crossed wooden handles attached on the sharp shiny blade surface helps the consumers attain the desired altered design.
This design as well as having ability to satisfy the consumers luxury desires, also offers a playful touch on everyday exercise of kitchen cutting (many would like to try position their hands in different directions like cross hands and play around while using it). Having little changes that would make the work joyful is definitely worth trying.
Besides playfulness and luxury and design mentioning the material used is very fundamental.
the material desired to be used for the blade would be stainless steel as its usage and quality has been proved over the decades and centuries of knife usage, its also pretty affordable.
The material used on the handles would differ from time to time . It would be updated with the material that is most desired in market, as in such a season that bamboo collections are out bamboo would be the best material to start with.
As it comes to shapes,the almost circular shape of the whole mezzaluna basically follows the shape of blade and slightly goes off to its own shape suitable for the grip, this gives the design a curvilinear shape. This geometrical shape is also repeated by the screws that attach the blade and handles together on each end of the upper blade. The curvilinear handle shapes makes it more ergonomic and gives extra grip space for those that have difficulty with their grip position on the typical mezzaluna designs out in market.
On the prototype model that is being presented MDF wood is chosen for all pieces of the product and painted in desired colours to present what the final design.

The story of Electronics
The Design for the dumb is an strategy being practiced by the marketer today. Low quality products being sold in lower prices than repair prices makes the consumers to purchase their new design which would be called new technology in many cases the technology has not improved, its just the looks and the function ability may as well dropped. This bring the next stage of recycling of the product life cycle in which mostly affects the 3rd world countries away from this company owners who are safely becoming rich through the burning of the intoxtic material used in manufacturing of it without protective gowns or procedure. Therefore every stuff, consumer, recycler or person living near by these consumers have to pay money wise, health wise and environmental wise so that an small number could benefit.
Annie Leonard suggests the rule of "Take them Back" where the companies take responsibility of recycling and if this happens the designs would improve in quality and become longer lasting & toxic free.
Story of Cosmetics
Annie Leonard in her video about cosmetics points at a very interesting side of manufacturing the product used on daily basis which are "Harmful" to individuals bodies. The companies with massive sells are usually those who have variety of products with low or in other words affordable prices in market which many consumers rather purchasing. These product therefore would need to use the affordable ingredient as well, from which's 90% of time is intoxic chemicals leading to cancer, learning disabilities, asthma, male fertility. As been said by producers of this products the level of the harmfulness in each product isn't enough to harm your body but when many of these products are being used it definitely has effect.
A good way of preventing this would be using more trustworthy, organic products which may cost more to pocket but much less to the health.
story of bottled water
The story of bottled water has introduced individuals with one phase of marketing that is common in every kind of marketing today. Mentioning bottled water Annie Leonard has focused on the manufactured demands and what is behind the scenes of advertisements that leads to the desired positive behaviour towards the product and how far apart it is from reality.
It visualises the tricks that companies use by promotional advertisements (purity and fantasy) to play with the target markets emotions and gather their interest and conveys how treat full an small company's benefit is compared to the large world we are living in. Un-environmental friendly and costly. The video's aim is to prevent ourselves from spending on harm full products such as bottled water while the same could be gained with 1/2000 of the price paid and save the environment we are living in by reduction of this product lifecycle which equals to loss in every phase of production.

The video of David Kelley based on human centred design is something great for Industrial design students specially at this stage of the program with the UNSW students where get an insight into what the human centred design mean (approach to Design and bringing behaviour and personality into designs). What i find interesting is that even though the video is 9 years old the designs presented are still counted modern and unique, where us as design students should have such an aim and goals while redesigning a tool into a design that offer more leisure in it and competes with every other competitor including the design excellence winners.
Having the narrator or the guest of the program as David Kelley The founder of IDEO has made the video seem much more trustworthy and interesting and as in the videos shown some designs were made by his own design group. The introduction of all these innovative great ideas inspires us as future designers to start building our ideas into different aspects of design.
I reckon now that the human centred Designs are more developed and many more examples and design have been presented to public by market and different designers, we could understand and feel David Kelley's point better on focus on the product itself has been made as a key point.
I also find the use of prototype models interesting. As no matter what sector of design we are in the prototypes are always the best required types of presenting the design either to clients, colleagues or tutors. As it is a lot more visual and practical and helps the design understanding much easier.
the insight and discoveries i had from this video would be upgrading the amount of innovativeness and basing it on the clients needs and what level of technology they would require to have good example is the Prada store and its smart technologies that would give pleasure to the customers. In other words presenting the best ever possible technology with luxurious and eye-gasmic designs that are based on the human centred designs.
